The first day of your Myanmar tour coincides with 'Akyo Nei', the eve of Thingyan. During a walking tour of the city you will see local Buddhists making merit at the temples, busy market stalls selling goods for the coming days and excited children gearing up for the festivities. This evening, parties and dances will signal the start of the holiday.

The real excitement of New Year begins on the second day. You'll head out with your guide in an open-air truck for what is certain to be the highlight of your Myanmar package tour. Drive through the streets and partake in the ritual of water throwing, splashing and being splashed by the smiling Burmese. Packed with stage performances of song and dance, join the revelers in this joyous atmosphere.

Witness a different side of the New Year's festivities by traveling through the countryside to Ngwe Saung beach. Outside of the city, the celebrations are more subdued but equally enjoyable. You'll spend the next two days of your Myanmar tour at the beach, relaxing on the white sand or walking through the village to observe the merry celebrations.

Return to Yangon for the last day of Thingyan, the actual New Year Day. Head to the revered Shwedagon Pagoda to join the local Buddhists as they make merit and prepare spiritually for the coming year.
