Experience one of Asia's most diverse countries in this week long tour of Myanmar. With the colonial grandeur of Yangon, Bagan's temple-filled plains, the cultural centre of Mandalay, and the tranquil waters of Inle Lake, Myanmar has it all.
Begin your tour in Yangon, formerly known as Rangoon, a relatively quiet and charming city. With impressive colonial and spiritual heritage, Yangon is one of the most fascinating and authentic cities in South East Asia.
The kingdoms of Bagan date back to the early 2nd century A.D., although Bagan only entered its golden age in the 11th century. Over the next 200 years, more than 13,000 temples, pagodas and other religious structures were built. Today, seven centuries later, approximately 2,200 temples remain standing making Bagan one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in Asia.
Step back in time in to an era of splendor and lavishness as you head to Mandalay, where the Royal Courts once ruled the land of Myanmar. Made famous by Rudyard Kipling's poem, "Mandalay", the city exudes an exotic and mysterious vibe. Myanmar's second largest city is still known today as the countries' cultural centre and many traditional craftsmen practice their trade in workshops throughout the city.
No trip to Myanmar would be complete without a visit to Inle Lake, one of the country's most spectacular sights. Villages are built on stilts over the lake with gardens built up from strips of water hyacinth and mud and anchored to the bottom with bamboo poles. Witness the famous Intha fishermen, who use an innovative leg-rowing technique to steer their boat as they fish.
This one week trip will show you the glorious diversity of Myanmar, a country that is sure to leave a profound impression on any one who visits there.
Nestled amongst the coconut palms on the pristine beach frontage of Ngapali, the luxurious Sandoway Resort consists of 55 villas and cottages scattered throughout six acres of tropical gardens.
The Strand, once regarded as 'the finest hostelry east of Suez' has long been recognized as one of Yangon's landmarks. The hotel's Victorian influence is visible from the colonnaded entranceway. Inside spells the same story with marble floors inlaid with teak, rattan furniture, potted palms, chandeliers and black-lacquered ceiling fans.
Experience Bangkok and the best of northern Thailand in this enlightening tour through one of Asia's most enchanting Buddhist kingdoms. This tour is ideal for couples, small groups or makes a great family vacation.
